Drumreagh Presbyterian Church Ministers
![]() Rev.
J Forbes
(1951 – 1972) |
Rev. John James Forbes was ordained in Drumreagh on 13th November 1951, exactly sixty years after the third minister of Drumreagh the Rev Samuel Wallace had been ordained.Following the recent problems Mr Forbes decided that he would take on the task of trying to bring back the people that had left to the church. He thought the best way to do this was by visiting the people in their own homes or in their own environment, this was a great success and as a result of Mr Forbes kindness and ability to speak to people at their own level he gained the loyalty and respect of the congregation. |
| After the visitation of the Presbytery, six
years later in November 1957, it was revealed that not only
had the numbers of the congregation been returned but also there
was an increase of fifty-five families.
During Mr Forbes ministry not only had he
strengthened the congregation with an increase in numbers but
he also overseen the building of the church hall and the completion
of an extension to the church. Mr Forbes had always an interest
in education and taught in the nearby town of Ballymoney in
two different schools Ballymoney Technical College and Dalriada
Grammar School as a temporary member of staff for a number of
years. In 1972 he made a decision that he wanted to take up
teaching at Dalriada full –time and on September 30th
he resigned as minister of Drumreagh and Dromore. At Dalriada
he was appointed as head of religious education and made many
beneficial contributions to life within the school. He retired
in 1983 due to illness and sadly died on 8th May 1990.
