More About The Meetinghouse

The construction of their new meetinghouse proved to be the main reason for their problems and came to be a burden on the people. The actual building of the church started almost immediately after the lease had been granted and by the summer of 1835 building was well under way. Construction of the building was slow as money was scarce; but despite this everyone done what he or she could to help.

Three years later the walls had been completed and the congregation came to the agreement that now was the time to call a minister. They called the Rev T. Beare who was at that time the minister of Ringsend. Rev. Beare answered the call and became the first minister of the congregation of Drumreagh in February 1838, some eight years after the original idea of a new church in the area. The new building was finally completed in time for the first visitation of the Presbytery in July 1839. They commented on what they had seen and the dedication of the congregation had also impressed the Presbytery.

The pews when they were added in 1880

New pews were inserted into the church in 1880 at a total cost of around £300 and these pews are still being used in the church today, one hundred and twenty seven years later.
