The Church Hall

During the Rev Forbes time as minister, he realized the need for a church hall, which would improve congregational life and increase the church’s out look on those outside of the congregation. It was agreed on the 14th December 1952 that a church hall fund should be established, at the same meeting that evening, Mr William Mitchell offered a site free of charge on which to build the new church hall he also told them to take whatever ground they needed.

Three years later the church hall was opened to the congregation for use. Not only had the congregation obtained a hall, incorporated in the same building there was a committee room, cloakroom, and also toilet facilities.

Two special memorial stones were laid, on either side of the interior walls adjacent to the front door of the hall, in remembrance of the two longest serving ministers; Rev. T Beare (39 years) and the Rev. S Wallace (47 years). These stones were laid by Miss Elizabeth H. W. Beare (grand-daughter of Rev Beare) and Miss Sarah Wallace (sister of Rev. Wallace). In the late nineteen and nineties improvements were made to the hall floor and windows replaced. At the moment a ramp is being erected at the front entrance for the benefit of the elderly and wheelchair bound members of the congregation.
